Easter Road Trip in the Maxus eTERRON 9 — Europe's First All-Electric Pick-up Truck
It's all-wheel drive. It's fully electric. And it's impressive. Comfortable, capable and perfect for a family Easter road trip.
Blessed with an impressive electric range of 267 miles WLTP (combined), off-road capability, towing capacity and lots of comfort, the eTERRON 9 is first in its class in every way. That's the official line from Maxus UK. Me and my family put it to the test on our Easter road trip.
Day 1: home to Ross-on-Wye
We set off for Easter on Saturday afternoon — ahead of us, the first leg of our holiday. Today we were going to drive the 90 miles from home to Herefordshire, via the M5 and M50. Overnight charging at home gave us an official range-busting "dynamic" range of 291 miles (more on dynamic range later). That was a pleasant surprise — the official figure is 267 miles WLTP, so we were already ahead of the mark.
With a fully loaded front trunk — the "frunk", remote electrically operated, of course — and our suitcases in the back, off we went. A payload of 620kg meant we had loads of room. Bit of a chill in the air, so I'd pre-heated the eTERRON 9's spacious cabin beforehand on the Maxus app.
An overnight stay just outside the lovely riverside town of Ross-on-Wye, no charging needed (we still had loads of battery), and we were ready for the long leg the next day.
Day 2: Ross-on-Wye to the Pembrokeshire coast
Easter Sunday, heading for the beautiful Pembrokeshire coast. A pleasantly quiet journey — apart from the music selected by our 10-year-old daughter (Katseye, since you're wondering). There's so little road noise in this Maxus, and the air suspension means it effortlessly glides along.
A break for lunch and we were soon on our way again, still with more than enough charge. We got all the way to South Wales via the A40 and M4, and the Maxus was still showing a dynamic range of 70 miles. I checked the charging app for a good-priced charging station (Dragon Charging is one I'd recommend for Wales) and soon the power was flowing quickly into the big battery. Made sense to charge here so we didn't have to think about it while we were away — and less than 40 minutes later we were ready to roll again and complete the journey to our destination on the coast for the week.
On the coast: turning heads at Saundersfoot
The Maxus eTERRON 9 certainly drew heads as we meandered along the coast. One guy stopped to ask me for a quote for one once he realised we sell these magnificent Maxus trucks — and the whole Maxus range, including the Deliver 9 — at The Electric Van Company. Although we cover locally from our Rochdale, Nelson and Leeds sites, I was more than happy to oblige him since he was on holiday from Lancashire himself.
Saundersfoot harbour is very pretty, but parking is tight. Luckily we soon found a spot at the end of the harbour and the eTERRON 9 effortlessly turned into it. Later in the week we returned and found a bank of fast chargers, so we charged up ready to head home the afternoon before we were leaving.

The journey home: where dynamic range pays off
Going home, the built-in sat-nav took us a better route across the mountains. Because of that the "dynamic" range — which adjusts to real-world driving conditions and speeds — got better and better with all the regeneration on the descents. We got home and still had 140 miles of range left.
A great road trip in a superb truck.
